Legendary Miami Dolphins Running Back Ricky Williams Endorses Amendment 3

Trailblazer joins coalition behind legalizing adult use recreational marijuana in Florida

(Miami, FL) – Today, legendary Miami Dolphins running back, NFL Hall of Fame nominee and trailblazing marijuana business entrepreneur Ricky Williams endorsed Amendment 3 on the November ballot, putting his important voice behind legalizing adult use recreational marijuana in Florida.

Once cast off from football over his use of marijuana, Williams was ahead of the times in showcasing marijuana’s important use for athletes to recover from injuries. Now founder of cannabis brand Highsman, Williams is advocating for the injustices he faced to dissolve, as no one deserves to have their life completely altered over simple marijuana possession, nor does any family deserve to be ripped apart.

“I know firsthand the ostracizing and debilitating effects the criminalization of cannabis can have,” Williams said. “I want to pay my experiences forward, end the unjust criminalization and prejudice over cannabis, and bring Florida to the same level of freedom that over half of the country already enjoys. We can accomplish this by voting ‘Yes’ on 3 this November.”

Williams joins a growing coalition which agrees that passing Amendment 3 is the best path forward for Florida. Williams’ endorsement follows that of Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, boxing legend Mike Tyson, Athletes for Care, ACLU of Florida, the Florida Democratic Party, former President Donald Trump, Wiz Khalifa, SEIU Florida, Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young, Republican State Sen. Joe Gruters, Democratic State Sen. Shev Jones, the Tampa Bay Times’ Editorial Board, the Libertarian Party of Florida, and more local leaders and advocates from across the state. These endorsements illustrate the broad support across party and ideological lines behind legalizing recreational adult use marijuana in Florida.

“Ricky’s story is an important case study for why passing Amendment 3 is an important, long-necessitated step forward for Florida,” said Morgan Hill, spokesperson for Smart & Safe Florida. “No one deserves to have their life changed simply for using marijuana. We are grateful to have his support and look forward to continuing to grow this vast coalition behind legalizing adult use recreational marijuana for Florida.”
