Athletes for Care Endorses Amendment 3

Health advocacy nonprofit joins growing coalition behind legalizing recreational adult use marijuana in Florida

(Jacksonville, FL) – Today, Athletes for Care endorsed a YES vote on Amendment 3 on the November ballot, indicating its support for legalizing recreational adult use marijuana in the state of Florida and increasing access to safe, regulated products for all adult Floridians.

A nonprofit organization headquartered in Jacksonville, Athletes for Care works with current and former athletes to address the long term impact of the mental and physical toll a career in sports can have on athletes. The organization has long been a leader in advocating for safe, healthy outlets for the more than 2 billion people of all ages who compete annually in sanctioned sports globally.

“Cannabis has a long history in sports to help center athletes and aid them in recovery following both short- and long-term injuries,” said Clint Johnson, Executive Director of Athletes for Care. “Our goal is to ensure that individuals of all backgrounds can enjoy access to safe, tested outlets to deal with the effects sports have on their bodies. Marijuana is an important tool to do so, and as it becomes more common across the country, it’s only right that Florida passes Amendment 3 and joins the growing list of states who enjoy the same freedom.”

Athletes for Care joins a growing coalition which agrees that passing Amendment 3 is the best path forward for Florida. Athletes for Care’s endorsement follows that of boxing legend Mike Tyson, former President Donald Trump, the Florida Democratic Party, Wiz Khalifa, ACLU of Florida, SEIU Florida, Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan, Gadsden County Sheriff Morris Young, Republican State Sen. Joe Gruters, Democratic State Sen. Shev Jones, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy, the Libertarian Party of Florida, and more local leaders and advocates from across the state. All illustrate the broad support across party and ideological lines behind legalizing recreational adult use marijuana.

“We are honored to have the support of Athletes for Care, an important voice in how the legalization of regulated adult use marijuana can simply raise the quality of life for individuals,” said Morgan Hill, spokesperson for Smart & Safe Florida. “Our position is popular, and our campaign’s advocacy footprint is notable. We look forward to further showcasing the expansive and growing coalition behind ensuring that Amendment 3 becomes law.”
