FreedomDoesntStink.com a breath of fresh air in conversation around Amendment 3

(Orlando, FL) – What’s clouding the blue skies of the Sunshine State? It’s misinformation. What actually stinks in Florida is politicians spreading falsehoods and using scare tactics to confuse voters about the realities of Amendment 3.

Today, following the bill introduced by State Sen. Joe Gruters (R-District 22), aiming to ban all smoking in public spaces, Smart & Safe Florida launched a new website, FreedomDoesntStink.com. The website clearly lays out the legislature’s ability to regulate adult use recreational marijuana in the same ways alcohol and tobacco are regulated today. Through both ballot language and the Florida Constitution, the legislature has multiple venues authorizing its power to tax and regulate recreational adult use marijuana.

Sen. Gruters, Chair of the Florida Senate’s Regulated Industries Committee, knows this work is achievable. In fact, it’s something he’s already championed when he worked to ban smoking at our state’s public beaches.

“Just as I worked diligently in the Florida Legislature to ban smoking at our state’s public beaches, I am committed to ensuring our public spaces remain smoke-free,” Sen Gruters wrote in his op-ed declaring support for Amendment 3. “We can implement clear regulations and enforcement measures to prevent public marijuana use in the same way that we limit alcohol and tobacco, thereby protecting the health and comfort of all Floridians.”

“What really stinks is politicians lying to Florida voters about the realities of living in a state with more individual freedom and safer communities,” said Morgan Hill, spokesperson for Smart & Safe Florida. “Amendment 3 will put an end to arrests for simple marijuana possession, give adults the right to make their own choices and provide Floridians access to safe, tested products. Smells pretty good to me.”
